LEVEL 1 - CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION

According to the FBI, 70% of active shooter incidents are over in 5 minutes or less, and the average police response time to an emergency call in the United States is 7 minutes. This data clearly indicates that in most violent assaults that involve a weapon, the attacker can kill and wound multiple victims before the police arrive on scene. If your organization relies solely on police response to stop an active shooter, you are at risk. You must know what steps to take to safeguard yourself and others entrusted to your care during an active shooter.

Our Level 1 course is taught in classroom format. Participants will receve training on how to mitigate and ultimately survive an active shooter incident. Courses are offered virtually or in-person, in partial-day sessions.

(Violent Assault Response Survival)  is an 8-hour hands on training certification course designed to teach practical techniques that can be utilized to survive a violent assault at your school, house of worship, or workplace.  Whether you work at a school, university, hospital, church, temple, or other workplace setting, the principles of survival taught in this course are universal and based on the philosophy that your chances of surviving a violent assault increase significantly if you understand all the options available to you during an attack.

Far too often, organizations have adopted a “lockdown only” tactic in response to an active shooter.  Employees are continuously trained to lockdown, hide, and wait to be rescued by responding police.  A major problem with “lockdown only” protocol is that most active shooter incidents are stopped by other than police.  In other words, the killing ceases because the shooter runs out of ammunition, commits suicide, or is overtaken by the people they are trying to murder.

Make no mistake, an active shooter inside your building is an imminent threat to your safety.  CLPS firmly believes that Lockdown during an active shooter event is a viable option and should be included as part of your organization’s emergency response plan.  However, there are other options you need to know in addition to “locking down” that could increase your chances of survival.  This course teaches Early Threat Recognition, Crisis Communications, Lockdown and Barricade, Safe Evacuation and Escape, and Defensive Force and Resistance Tactics.

VARS Certification training is a train-the-trainer course.  Participants who successfully complete this course will be authorized and prepared to provide this important survival training to others at their organization.
