CLPS firmly believes that effective school safety and security should involve school administrators, teachers, parents and students. School safety is multifaceted and collaborative efforts are needed to be successful. With this philosophy at the center of our mission, we offer a variety of relevant training presentations for parents and students.
Parent Presentations include:
UNDER-AGE DRINKING: WHAT PARENTS NEEDS TO KNOW!
Although the drinking age is 21, under-age drinking amongst adolescents is prevalent. Completely eliminating this problem may be unrealistic. However, limiting its negative affects is very achievable. This presentation will examine ways parents can reduce incidents of under-age drinking that could involve their children. Some of the legal ramifications will be discussed. Parents will gain a better understanding of what they can do to help ensure their child’s safety with regards to alcohol use and abuse.
SCHOOL SAFETY: UNDERSTANDING SCHOOL EMERGENCIES!
Although schools are still considered one of the safest places for kids to be, emergency situations do occur on school campuses from time to time. Schools may have to initiate a Lockdown, Evacuation, Early Dismissal or even Shelter-In-Place in response to certain emergencies. This presentation is designed to provide parents with an overview of school emergency responses. Parents will be provided with what role they can play to better ensure the safety of their children in the event of an emergency at their child’s school.
CYBER SAFETY: HOW TO PROTECT YOUR CHILD!
It is no secret that not everyone who uses technologies such as the internet have good intentions. In fact, there has been a significant increase in sexual predator and other inappropriate interactions “on-line” where children have become victim. This presentation is designed to inform parents of what they can do to better safeguard their children from becoming a cyber-victim.
BULLYING PREVENTION: WHY PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT MATTERS?
Recent statistics show that over 30% of students aged 12 – 18 say they are bullied. And, according to the Safe School Initiative Study, three-quarters of students who carried-out a targeted violent attack at school were bullied by other students. Although some schools have taken the initiative and implemented anti-bullying curriculum for their students, parents have not been included enough in this process. The purpose of this presentation is to provide parents with useful information about bullying prevention. Parents will be taught ways they can recognize, respond to, and ultimately assist at reducing incidents of bullying. Parental involvement in anti-bullying programs is crucial.
Student Presentations include:
LEARNING TO BE A RESPONSIBLE DRIVER!
Driving a vehicle is a major responsibility. New drivers, although excited to take on this new endeavor, often overlook the “little things” that can contribute to an accident. Most kids have gotten the message of not drinking and driving. However, what about texting and driving, or disruptive passengers and driving, or simply being tired and driving to name a few? This presentation is designed to reaffirm the importance of safety while operating a motor vehicle. Students will be reminded and taught that “little things” while driving can lead to disaster. Our goal is to save student’s lives!
UNDERSTANDING THE DANGERS OF THE INTERNET!
Kids today are much savvier than adults may have been a generation ago. With the increase usage of technologies and the explosion of the internet, sometimes children and adolescents underestimate the dangers that exist in the cyber world. The purpose of this presentation is to educate kids how to safely use the internet. Our goal is to prevent kids from becoming cyber-victims!
STUDENT’S ROLES AT CREATING SAFER SCHOOL ENVIRONMENTS!
It is quite evident that schools today face many challenges with regards to safety and security. Many incidents can occur inside or even outside of school that can impact student’s safety. Current “best practices” training teaches the importance of student inclusion when considering school safety and security matters. This presentation is designed to provide students with an overview of school emergency responses. Students will be provided with what role they can play to better ensure their personal safety and the safety of others at their school. Our goal is to create safer learning environments!
WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO RESPECT OTHERS?
Kids today face many challenges. Students are bombarded with social pressures, family pressures, academic pressures and various other pressures typically experienced by children and adolescents in our fast paced world. It is extremely important for kids to be reminded of the importance of respecting others. The purpose of this presentation is to encourage students to exercise tolerance and be more respectful of their fellow classmates. We at CLPS strongly feel that respect amongst students within a learning environment contributes to a school’s overall safety. Our goal is to assist students at becoming the best they can be!
Parent and Student presentations are generally provided in 60-minute sessions. Our presentations may be adjusted to meet the needs of your specific group. Other safety topics can be presented upon sufficient notice.
